This is a reproductive system problem that men of any age may suffer from. The condition usually lasts one to two weeks. Orchitis is mostly caused by mumps and is not a sexually transmitted disease.
Symptoms of Orchitis
- The testicles are swollen and painful. This symptom may only be present in one testicle, or it may be present in both testicles.
- You may feel pain when urinating, or you may feel warm. In cases caused by mumps, there is facial swelling.
Causes of Orchitis
- Usually caused by the mumps virus.
- In some cases, bacteria spread due to a urinary tract infection.
Home Care
- Rest in bed, support the testicles with a body protector, and take the appropriate amount of painkillers.
- When your testicles become swollen and painful, you should see a doctor.
- Sexual intercourse should be suspended during the illness to avoid transmitting mumps (if this is the cause) to your partner or exacerbating testicular pain.
Prevention
Orchitis is difficult to prevent. Mumps is the main cause of orchitis. The incubation period can be as long as three weeks, during which no symptoms appear. Therefore, it is difficult to ensure that the patient does not come into contact with a mumps patient and become infected.
