Although alcoholism is not beneficial, it turns out that the harm caused by alcohol is especially serious for teenagers. One study found that adolescents who drink alcohol are significantly less able to obtain and update information than normal adolescents.
The Study: An Overview
The study, conducted by the University of California, focused on 33 alcohol-dependent young people aged 15 to 16 years old and compared them with 24 young people of the same age who did not have a drinking habit. The results showed that the biggest difference between alcoholic adolescents and non-alcoholic adolescents is the memory performance. Alcoholic adolescents often have poor performance in acquiring and updating information.
Experts believe that adolescence is an important period of brain development, and the refinement of neural connections is completed around the age of 16. Therefore, drinking alcohol in your teens can have serious negative consequences, and the damage to your intelligence may last a lifetime. What’s more, being addicted to the things in the cup all day long will definitely affect your learning mood and performance.
